GhostLab Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 20, 2026 · Applies to the iOS app “GhostLab: Paranormal Toolkit” (formerly SpectralEVP)
GhostLab is built to be private by design. The app has no user accounts, no advertising, no analytics
SDKs, and no servers of our own. Your investigation recordings, videos, notes, and settings are stored
only on your device unless you choose to export or share them.
Summary
- We do not collect your data. Nothing you record in GhostLab is transmitted to us.
- No accounts, no ads, no trackers, no third-party analytics.
- Everything stays on your device unless you export, share, or save it somewhere yourself.
Data the app uses on your device
GhostLab asks iOS for permission to use the following, strictly to power the features described.
All of this processing happens on your iPhone or iPad:
- Microphone - records EVP investigation sessions and powers Spirit Speak Live Chat.
Recordings are saved to the app’s on-device Library.
- Speech recognition - Spirit Speak uses Apple’s speech recognition to loosely match
spoken questions to dictionary words. Depending on your device settings, Apple may process speech
audio on its servers to provide recognition; see
Apple’s Privacy Policy. GhostLab itself never
receives or stores this audio off-device.
- Camera - provides the low-light overlay, Motion-Grid, SLS body-tracking view, and
optional session video recording. Video is saved with the investigation on this device.
- Photos (add only) - only when you tap “Save to Photos,” the app writes a video to
your Photos library. GhostLab cannot read your existing photos.
- Location (while using the app) - shows haunted places near you, logs compass
heading, and tags where a session was recorded so it can appear on your in-app map. Location stays
in the session files on your device.
- Motion & Fitness (barometer) - reads barometric pressure during sessions to log
environmental pressure trends alongside your recordings.
- Local network (Team mode) - offline Multipeer connectivity shares session tags and
live levels directly between nearby investigators’ phones. This is peer-to-peer on your local
network; nothing passes through the internet or any server.
- Nearby Interaction (ultra-wideband) - measures distance to a second U1-capable
device used as a trigger object during investigations.
- Apple Watch companion - start/stop/tag commands sync between your Watch and iPhone
via Apple’s WatchConnectivity, device-to-device.
You can decline or revoke any permission in iOS Settings; the related feature simply won’t function.
Purchases
The optional GhostLab Pro lifetime unlock is processed entirely by Apple through the App Store.
We never see or store your name, payment details, or billing information. Purchase entitlement is
verified on-device through Apple’s StoreKit.
Data sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share any personal data with third parties - we don’t possess any.
The only ways data leaves your device are actions you take yourself: exporting a session package,
generating and sharing a PDF report, saving a video to Photos, or sharing tags with nearby teammates
in Team mode.
Data retention and deletion
All sessions, recordings, and settings live in the app’s storage on your device. Delete any session
from the Library, or delete the app to remove everything. Because we hold no copies, there is nothing
for us to delete on a server.
Children
GhostLab is rated 9+ for infrequent horror/fear themes and is not directed at children under 13.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If a future update ever changes how data is handled, we will update this page and note it in the
App Store release notes before the change takes effect.
